The Green Climate Fund and the Paris Agreement

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) will play a key role in supporting the implementation of the Paris Agreement. At its upcoming meeting in June, the GCF Board will consider the details of how the Fund could contribute to the outcomes and objectives of the climate deal. To inform this discussion, CCAP has partnered with the World Resources Institute and Sierra Club, with inputs from CARE International, to prepare joint comments on how the GCF can advance some of the more important provisions of the Paris Agreement. In particular, we offer recommendations on how the GCF could:

  1. Integrate the overarching goals of the Paris Agreement into the work of the Fund;

  2. Enhance and support the implementation of countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions, and help them to plan over the long term to address climate mitigation and adaptation challenges; and

  3. Promote programmatic funding approaches to deliver funding for transformational action at scale.
