Individual Giving Consultant

The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) is a nongovernmental nonprofit that promotes ambitious climate action globally. Based in Washington DC with staff around the world, we help policymakers around the world develop, promote, and implement innovative, market-based solutions to major climate problems that balance both environmental and economic interests. 

CCAP is a collegial, non-hierarchical organization known for its emphasis on cutting-edge analyses, productive policy dialogues, and on-the-ground delivery of transformative policy programs and projects. 

Position Description

The Individual Giving Consultant will advise and assist the Communications Manager and Executive Director on how to improve and cultivate CCAP’s fundraising campaigns and donation efforts, specifically targeting individual donors. S/he will provide research and insights, while supporting the staff in implementing best practices to enhance digital individual giving campaigns that build ongoing relationships with individual donors. 

The Individual Giving Consultant will support CCAP on adjusting and enhancing its current messaging to donors through email marketing, website content and social media posts. The consultant’s strategic insights and analytical prowess will drive the success of CCAP’s fundraising efforts, ensuring sustainable support and unrestricted funding towards our mission. 

Responsibilities include:
 

  • Conducting donor research to identify, cultivate and solicit individual giving prospects capable of making personal investments into CCAP’s climate policy efforts

  • Using best practices and industry benchmarks to enhance the effectiveness of our individual giving programs

  • Identifying ways to grow CCAP’s target audience for fundraising campaigns

  • Developing innovative and engaging annual online fundraising campaigns with the CCAP staff

  • Highlighting specific dates and opportunities for relevant campaigns

  • Providing guidance and recommendations on CCAP’s existing fundraising tools (I.E., emails, website and social media content)

  • Analyzing donor data and campaign results to identify trends, insights and areas for optimization

  • Presenting key findings, opportunities, risks and results to the Communications Manager and Executive Director

The position is available immediately for a six-month duration, with the possibility to be extended. CCAP offers a competitive salary and benefits package, based on the individual’s qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

​This is an ideal position for someone with 8+ years of successful philanthropic fundraising experience in running individual giving campaigns. This position is an excellent fit for someone interested in leveraging their skills to help rase awareness about innovative climate policy initiatives for a non-profit climate think tank that carries a rich history. The successful candidate will be able to learn quickly on the job, work both independently and with a team and manage multiple tasks. Specific qualifications include:

  • 8+ years of experience in philanthropic fundraising and individual giving in non-profit settings, with a focus on annual giving campaigns.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree (master’s preferred) in nonprofit management, strategic fundraising and philanthropy, marketing, integrated marketing communications, public relations, communications, or a relevant field

  • Proven success in past individual giving campaigns (including digital campaign activities)

  • Proficiency in using email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.)

  • Experience working closely with communications teams and management

  • Excellent research and writing skills required 

  • Experience working with analytics and metrics, particularly pertaining to emails and donor activity and with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies and insights 

  • A general understanding of global climate issues is a plus

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and timeliness with deadlines

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including: Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Experience in tracking and reporting fundraising results, with a demonstrated ability to apply lessons learned to strengthen future campaigns
