Tourism NAMA Workshop in the Dominican Republic

11.14.12 - 11.15.12

Workshop on NAMAs in the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Areas

On November 14-15, 2012, representatives from the Dominican Republic’s hospitality and energy sectors, local communities, NGOs, businesses, municipalities, and government officials joined CCAP in Punta Cana, to contribute to the development of a NAMA for the island nation’s rapidly growing tourist regions.  Participants were introduced to the NAMA concept, and discussed climate-friendly solutions for the waste and energy sectors with the potential to reduce reliance on carbon-intensive imported fossil fuels, reduce energy costs, and address the sizable negative environmental and social effects associated with inadequate waste collection and disposal.
