CCAP at COP27
CCAP is implementing the Paris Agreement Ambition and Action and working by creating applicable policies and directly implementing actions with governments, communities, the private sector, civil society, and public institutions. Immediate CCAP actions include creating enabling frameworks to attract investment in low-carbon infrastructure, accelerating on-the-ground mitigation projects, facilitating south-south knowledge sharing, reducing knowledge asymmetries in communities to implement carbon markets, creating capabilities to address Article 6, Article 2.1 and Article 13 in countries, tracking the climate finance based in the enhanced transparency framework and finding a climate finance common language between public and private sectors to mobilize private capital.
Methane mitigation is recognized as the single most effective strategy to reduce global warming in the short term, leading over 100 countries to sign the Global Methane Pledge at COP26. Now is the time to shift from pledges to action. CCAP is actively working with country signatories in the LAC region to identify and accelerate methane mitigation projects in the waste sector to help them achieve their methane pledge. The work will also contribute to raising the ambition of waste sector targets in country NDCs.
