Fifth Latin American Regional MAIN Dialogue
7.23.13 - 7.25.13
The Fifth Latin American Regional Dialogue of the Mitigation Action Implementation Network (MAIN), sponsored by CCAP and hosted by the Peruvian Ministry of Environment, was held in Lima, Peru through the generous support of Germany ICI, the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building, and Environment Canada.
This dialogue in Lima built on previous meetings of the MAIN network and went substantively deeper into two sectors in particular: waste and clean energy (renewable energy and energy efficiency). It included interventions by sectoral and finance experts, case studies from other countries, roundtable policy discussions, and interactive breakout sessions that address sectoral barriers and options for overcoming them. Building also on the success of CCAP’s recent Global NAMA Financing Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Peru dialogue included presentations of promising developing-country NAMAs in these sectors and provided contributing countries and representatives of financial institutions an opportunity to learn about evolving waste and clean energy actions in participant countries.
Topics of the dialogue included:
- The Role of NAMA Finance in Attracting Low-Carbon Investment
- NAMA Finance Opportunities
- The Germany/UK International NAMA Facility: Discussion of Selection Criteria and Template
- The Role of NAMAs in Developing and Implementing National Climate Goals
Waste Sector focus:
- Addressing Barriers to Mitigation in the Waste Sector
- Addressing Private Sector Stakeholder Concerns in Transforming the Waste Sector
- Interactive Session on Considering a Comprehensive Waste NAMA
- MAIN Country NAMAs in the Waste Sector
